Saturday's 17:05 local time start was first delayed as rain began falling over New Taipei City in the early afternoon. Grounds crews deployed the infield tarp by 15:30, and the scheduled first pitch was pushed back twice. By 18:00, with no break in the precipitation and further heavy bands forecast overnight, the umpiring crew and both team staff agreed to call off the game.

This was the second consecutive postponement of this series. Friday's Game 279 (21 August), also scheduled at Xinzhuang, was similarly rained out with the same makeup-week placement announced by the CPBL league office.

Northern Taiwan was under the influence of a dual tropical system during 21–22 August. A tropical depression off the northern coast near the northeastern corner of Taiwan combined with the outer bands of Typhoon Zitan (near the Gulf of Tonkin) to create a "two-pump" weather pattern that pulled continuous moisture across the Taipei basin. The setup produced heavy, persistent rainfall across northern Taiwan on both days.

Both games of the Wei Chuan Dragons vs Fubon Guardians series at Xinzhuang will be moved to the CPBL's makeup week. The exact makeup dates will be announced by the league at a later time.

For the Fubon Guardians, the rainout denies them a chance to build momentum at home. The Guardians entered the weekend with a second-half record of 13–21. Wei Chuan Dragons, sitting in a stronger second-half position, lose an opportunity to extend their recent positive form against a divisional rival.

The Dragons and Guardians are scheduled to meet again on Sunday 23 August at Xinzhuang (Game 285), weather permitting. Both teams will rely on their scheduled starting pitchers carrying over for that contest if conditions improve.
